When the European Volleyball Championship comes to Gothenburg in August, Spintso will be there supporting the referees. Refcom II Pro will be used during all 15 European Championship matches played at Scandinavium between 21 and 27 August.
This marks the next step in our collaboration with the Swedish Volleyball Federation. Refcom II Pro is already used in Swedish volleyball – now we are taking the system to the European Championship, with a solution adapted for the referee team, challenge referee and PA announcements in the arena.
Sweden will host Pool D of the 2026 Women’s European Volleyball Championship. Sweden, Italy, France, Slovakia, Croatia and Montenegro will play a total of 15 group-stage matches at Scandinavium.
Refcom II Pro will be used for communication within the referee team throughout all matches. The system will also be part of the communication setup with the challenge referee and for PA announcements through the arena’s sound system.
This is exactly the type of application we want to build our products for: technology should help referees do their job without creating additional tasks around the match.
Jakob Birgersson, Head of Events, Swedish Volleyball Federation:
“We have received professional support and assistance from Spintso. Now that we are organizing our biggest event, it feels reassuring to work with an experienced supplier that can deliver according to our needs without any problems and is highly solution-oriented. We are confident that the international referees will have everything they need to communicate in the best possible way when some of the world’s best teams take to the court.”

Communication during a volleyball match is about more than enabling two or more referees to talk to each other. Different roles need to communicate, decisions need to be handled quickly and, when required, information needs to be communicated to the audience.
With Refcom II Pro, several of these functions can be brought together in the same solution. The referee team can communicate directly, the challenge referee can be integrated into the communication, and PA announcements can be handled without a series of additional connections or separate communication equipment for the referee.
This makes the solution simpler where it matters most – for the people who actually use it during the match.
During a championship like this, it is not enough for the equipment to work for a single match. Several matches are played on the same day, and the system needs to be ready again when the next referee team steps onto the court.
That is why long battery life is an important part of Refcom II Pro. Less handling and charging between matches makes things easier for both the referees and the organization around the competition.
The same thinking is behind much of what we develop at Spintso: fewer things to think about outside the match and practical tools for what happens during it.

Refcom II Pro has been developed together with referees and for the situations where communication is actually needed. Clear audio, simple operation, long battery life and flexibility for different roles are not features created just for a specification sheet – they are designed to work when the match is underway.
The European Volleyball Championship gives us the opportunity to apply the same core idea to another sport and in a larger arena.
Ted Durdel, Spintso:
“What is exciting about this is that we get to take what we have built together with the Swedish Volleyball Federation and use it fully during the European Championship. The referee team, challenge referee and PA announcements all place different demands on communication, but for the referee, the solution should still be simple. That is very much what Spintso is about for us – the technology can be advanced behind the scenes, but it should be practical for the referee using it.”
Spintso has its roots in referee equipment, and our technology is used today across several sports. Volleyball is still an area where we have much more to do.
That is why we are especially looking forward to the week at Scandinavium. Fifteen matches give us the opportunity to demonstrate Refcom II Pro in real-world use in another sport – with different roles, different needs and a different match environment.
Different sports have different requirements. Our job remains the same: to develop equipment that works for the referees who use it.
See you at Scandinavium in August.
